Laser Hair Removal Pre & Post Instructions

Day of Treatment:
Before

MAKE SURE YOU SHAVED

Skin must be clean and free of makeup, lotions, oils, deodorant, sunless tanning products, numbing cream, etc. Products on the skin can increase the likelihood of adverse responses to the laser.

Avoid activities that increase body temperature for at least 2 hours before and after treatments.

Clients prone to cold sores may take an antiviral medication prior to treatments if advised by their personal physician. The heat from the laser can aggravate a reaction. Clients with active cold sores cannot be treated in the area of active sores.

Skin that is sunburned, hot to the touch, peeling, or is otherwise damaged cannot be treated.

After
Mild redness and swelling of the hair follicles and mild discomfort like a sunburn may occur. This is normal and should lessen with time. Avoid picking or scratching the skin. Cool compresses and/or aloe gel may be applied.

You may notice during and immediately after your session the smell of burned hairs. This is normal and will subside with cleansing.

Apply a mineral sunscreen (SPF 30+) and use it daily throughout treatment. You may apply makeup or concealer immediately after treatment to cover redness as long as skin is not irritated.

Avoid sun exposure. Unprotected sun exposure may lead to undesired results, including hyperpigmentation (dark areas).

Post-Treatment:
24-72 Hours Post
Do not pick or remove scabs or crusting. If crusting or blistering develop, apply Vaseline or ointment twice daily, to keep the area moist until healed and contact our office if the area shows signs of worsening condition.

If you experience redness, swelling or general discomfort you can take an OTC pain reliever, Benadryl or other similar antihistamine.

Avoid loofahs and abrasive scrubs for at least 3 days or until redness/swelling subsides.

1-2 Weeks Post
Appearance of hair growth or stubble will be evident 7-30 days after treatment. This is not new growth.

Exfoliate the treatment areas 2-3 times a week. This minimizes the risk of ingrown hair and encourages the shedding of treated hair.

Avoid sunburns and tans

2 weeks after treatment, chemical peels and other laser procedures in the treatment area may be resumed.
